Who said that road trips are a summer sport? Certainly not the inhabitants of Alsace, known throughout the world for their Christmas markets and for their gastronomy that delights the senses and nourishes the soul. Which is why it's time for a tour around this lovely area, from the canals of Colmar to the peaks of the route des Crêtes where you can discover (or rediscover) flammekueche, bretzel, choucroute, charcuteries, Kougelhopf and spätzle, all washed down with a glass of pinot or sylvaner.
Where to sleep : at the hotelF1 in Mulhouse or Kingersheim, Colmar and Strasbourg or Illkirch.
• Go on an excursion in a sleigh pulled by dogs or reindeer in Orbey, just a few kilometres from Colmar.
• Try some winter bathing in the outdoor pools at Wacken, near Strasbourg.
• If you're lucky enough (and the weather is cold enough) to find it frozen over, go skating on the Gérardmer lake.
